So my discussion question for you is to tell me what you would do if you were the Supreme Leader of the World to better protect your citizens in the future from a pandemic, improve the quality of life for everyone, and to make our planet a better and safer place to live?
Big question indeed I know. This is an easy 100% grade and is just a place to talk and express your feelings. There is no word minimum or limit. Tell me something though that you would do if you could make our world better and safer for everyone in the future. Make sure you post your answer to my website blog page as a comment below:
Pamela Gossett - My Spring Break
DEAR STUDENTS - POST YOUR ESSAY HERE. WE WILL USE THIS BLOG TO TALK AND COMMUNICATE WITH EACH OTHER. PLEASE KEEP YOUR COMMENTS HOPEFUL AND POSITIVE. IF YOU WANT TO TALK ABOUT THE CORONA VIRUS YOU CAN, BUT IT NEEDS TO BE BASED ON FACTS AND SCIENCE. THIS FORUM IS NOT A PLACE TO SPREAD MISINFORMATION, ONLY A PLACE FOR US TO TALK ABOUT OUR LIVES AND QUARANTINE.
HERE IS MY ESSAY
My spring break was spent almost entirely at home. I have had to quarantine the entire break because I was exposed by coming in contact with someone that had been in direct contact with a coronavirus patient. I did go out for groceries, doctor, and to buy plants at Home Depot to plant in my garden. I made sure to have disinfectant wipes and to keep my distance from others. I also walked and swam daily to get outside and get some sunshine once I was feeling better. I was not tested for coronavirus because I could not get a test even if I wanted one. My symptoms were not too severe, so it could have just been nothing more than the common cold. Without testing though there is no way to know what it was, so I isolated myself from others just in case. Many of my friends were still out partying like it was 1969 (Prince reference :-). I worried about them because I knew how serious this virus was and that they were not taking it seriously at all. I can only hope that they did not contract it during the time they were ignoring the science and the facts. Now that many more people are staying at home, realizing the consequences of their actions, and practicing social distancing, I don't feel quite so alone in my quest :-).
It is my sincerest hope that we all make it to the other side of this well and safe. I have family members that are nurses, EMT, Paramedics, Physician Assistants, and front line health care workers. I worry for their safety and they are worried that they will be overrun at the hospitals soon with critical care coronavirus patients. Their advice to all of us is please stay home, the life you save may be your own or someone that you love. The one thing that you can do that will help more than anything else is to stay at home, practice social/physical distancing, and not spread the coronavirus to others. We have to all so our part.
I spent a good deal of my time trying to come up with ways to create interesting assignments that anyone could do regardless of your computing capabilities. Every assignment will assume that you have nothing more than your cell phone to complete the assignment. You will need to install the phone apps schoology, weebly, Adobe Lightroom Mobile, and Adobe Express to use your cell phone successfully for the projects. If you were able to download Adobe CC to your home computer and it works, than that is great - use it instead. For the rest of you, use your cell phone and its apps to get work done.
I thought of all of my senior students and how they will be missing out on so much. I know this is hard on you especially. I want to encourage you to stay healthy, stay safe, and come back to fight another day. When this is all over I want our school to have belated celebration for graduation at least. Maybe we could hold a graduation ceremony at the gym or football stadium (Manatee High School always does it at the football stadium at their school). Stay strong and hopeful.
Make sure that you practice social/physical distancing for all of your photographic work. Stay local at your home or in your neighborhood, and always keep a 6 foot distance from others. Stay safe and stay well....Ms. Gossett
Submit and post your weebly URL
As many of you are already discovering, schoology is currently down, will crash, and you cannot access the schoology assignments.
Fortunately, I am posting everything to my website for you to access. When you complete assignments you will post the completed projects to your weebly website portfolio, publish your site, and notify me that you are done with the assignment.
In the comment section below copy and past you name and your URL website address for me to access your work.
Getting Started with Online Learning
This week will be a little rough as teachers figure out how to use schoology, create onlinie curriculum, and get all of their students going with this new approach to learning for many of them.
All of you are used to using my website for tutorials and lessons, so I think that you will be just fine in my class. This week we need to get you going though with downloading and installing applications on your home computers, laptops, and cell phones. By Sunday of this wee, April 5th, you should have completed the following:
1. Sent me the URL for your weebly website
2. Taken the schoology online survey that tells me what your computing capabilities are.
3. Written a 300 word essay (just a completion grade, no hard core grading here) about your last two weeks on break.
4. Installed Adobe Creative Cloud on your home computers if possible to do assignments
5. Installed on your cell phone the cell phone apps schoology, weebly, Adobe Lightroom Mobile. and Adobe Express.
6. Taken 10 photos of family and friends and used Adobe Express to create a collage and weebly to create a photo viewer of your photos on your website.
Do your best to complete all the above assignments this week. Starting next week you will just have one photo assignment each week that will be fun and easy to complete. If it is possible to do online industry certification then I will let you know.
Hang in there :-)
